Crazy Rich Asians Wedding Set Miniature
Art Direction Final, Spring 2022
Across the 2022 Spring semester, my class worked on individual 3D models with an accompanying miniature and graphics for a selection of films. We were allowed to choose our project based on a number of different screenplays that Eve had in her files. I chose to create a wedding set as if I was the production designer for Crazy Rich Asians (2018). The wedding scene in the film is quite memorable, where Nelson Coates, production designer, turned the church into an extravagant botanical garden. I decided to take some creative freedom and change the setting of the wedding to Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. While they visit the location in the film, this change allowed me to create a much more visually interesting project.
SketchUp 3D Model
I created a 3D model of my set in SketchUp across the the third quarter of the school year. Due to the components and size of the design, it began to slow down my personal computer. I continued working on my studio desktop, but lost the file at the end of the year's drive reset. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have any screenshots of the 3D model in my files.
Original Lookbook
January 2022
Dubbed the "sherbet wedding," my design for the set was very grand, vivid, and resembled the colors of sherbet ice cream. Eve nailed down on our lookbooks for this project, suggesting that we look to artwork for inspiration as well. At the time, it was my most contoured lookbook yet.
